The 43rd match of IPL 2022 is underway at the Brabourne Stadium between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). RCB captain Faf du Plessis opted to bat first after winning the toss. Unfortunately for him, du Plessis fell early but RCB did not suffer too much. Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar found the gaps to aggregate 43 runs in the first six overs.

The duo put in a lot of effort on a hot and humid day to avoid a collapse. They scored boundaries and also ran hard between the wickets. In the process, they also risked their wicket. At one such moment, it looked like Rajat Patidar almost lost his wicket as the batter was almost half at the pitch.

In the fourth over of RCB innings, Pradeep Sangwan bowled a length ball which Virat Kohli dabbed towards short third man. The batters ended a single but with the fielder charging at the ball, Kohli decided to abort. However, Patidar ran too hard and was halfway down the pitch. The fielder threw the ball at the non-striker’s end but fortunately for Patidar that he came in the line of the throw.

While the batter himself from getting out, Gujarat captain Hardik Pandya saw the funny side and jokingly demanded the batter be sent back for obstructing the field. The GT captain was visibly seen appealing for dismissal when the ball hit Patidar’s body.

Patidar scores a half-century

After surviving this close run-out call, Rajat Patidar made the most of the chance and scored a brilliant half-century. The batter reached the 50-run mark in just 29 balls. His quickfire knock allowed Virat Kohli to take his time and score his first half-century of the season. While Kohli hit 58 runs in 53 balls, Patidar departed after scoring 52 off 32 balls. The right-handed batter hit five boundaries and two sixes during his stay at the crease.
