After missing the first game of the tour, India Women ODI vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the second match of the 3-match ODI series. The same was confirmed by India women’s batting coach Shiv Sunder Das. The India Women will be playing one-off Test and T20Is thereafter against Australia Women Down Under, after the completion of the ongoing ODI series.

Notably, Kaur sustained a thumb injury days before the first ODI. She missed the first ODI which India Women lost by 9 wickets. Chasing a target of 226, Australia thrashed India with 54 balls to spare. Alyssa Healy and Rachael Haynes had put on a 126-run partnership for the first wicket.

She is not fit: Shiv Sunder Das

Team India Women’s batting coach Shiv Sunder Das while addressing the pre-match press conference opened up on Harmanpreet Kaur’s fitness. “I think right now she (Harmanpreet) is not fit and I think she is not available for the next game,” said Das.

He also added that the team is looking at the top-order and hoping for a good start in the second ODI. Talking about the middle order, Das said “we have really worked hard in terms of plans, we will look to execute it in tomorrow’s game.”

Batting first, India Women registered 225/8, courtesy Mithali Raj’s knock of 61 runs. But the batters couldn’t make their stay valuable at the crease. However, a quick cameo by Richa Ghosh, the Indian side was able to get to the 220-mark.
