Manchester United and England captain Harry Maguire has received a bomb threat after the Red Devils lost to Liverpool 4-0. As reported by the Sun, the threats were received via email where Maguire was warned that his family home, where he lives with his fiancee Fern Hawkins and two daughters, will be exploded.

A spokesman for Maguire revealed that police have been involved in the matter as family safety is under question. The spokesman said, “In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home.”

“He has reported this to the police who are now looking into the matter. The safety of his family and those around him is obviously Harry's number one priority.  He will continue to prepare for this weekend's fixture as normal and we will not be commenting in any further detail at this time.”

The Cheshire Police also issued a statement stating that a ‘police explosives dog’ was brought to the address and no ‘suspicious items’ were found. The statement read, "On Wednesday 20 April Cheshire Police were called to reports of a bomb threat at an address in the Wilmslow area.

“No evacuations took place but, as a precautionary measure, a police explosives dog attended the address on Thursday 21 April to conduct a search of the gardens and surrounding area. No suspicious items were found during the search. An investigation into the bomb threat remains ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.”

Meanwhile, a petition drafted by some Manchester United fans that said, “Remove Harry Maguire of club captaincy” has resurfaced with 35,000 supporters. The petition talks about how Maguire is a ‘$80 million dollar flop’ and a ‘sham’. The petition read, “Dear Man Utd fans, we are sick of this $80 million dollar flop parading as our captain.”

“The very fact that he cost 80 million pounds is a sham and a win on the seller's side. The club is for the people and the people have spoken! Stripping Harry Maguire of club captaincy is a step in the right direction for our climb. If it is possible, sell him too. Our patience has been worn out! Enough is enough. Make Manchester United Great Again. Listen to the fans! Sign the petition.”
