He doesn’t fit in modern day cricket: Ajay Jadeja doesn’t see Dinesh Karthik in India’s T20 World Cup squad

Despite being reminded about Karthik’s numbers in T20 cricket ever since he started playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022, Jadeja refrained from picking the wicketkeeper batter in his team.

The 2022 T20 World Cup is just around the corner and teams have already started their preparations. Team India, which is looking to put on an improved performance as compared to the last edition, is also preparing for the mega event. To put on better performance, the Rohit Sharma-led team needs to get the combination right and should have all the required resources.

India are getting a good preparatory tournament in the form of the Asia Cup and the selectors seem to have zeroed upon the names that will feature in the biennial event. Dinesh Karthik surely looks in contention to fly with the team to Australia. However, Ajay Jadeja has no place for Karthik in his T20 World Cup squad.

The former Indian cricketer has made a blunt comment regarding Karthik’s place in the team and has said that he can sit in the commentary box rather.

“Now if you want to play the way I have heard them…aggressive, then you have to pick differently. If Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma walk in, you need Dinesh Karthik at all costs. He is your insurance. But if you don’t have either of them, then Dinesh Karthik has no work here. But yes, I would not put Karthik there, he can have a seat beside me. He is very good as a commentator,” Jadeja said ahead of the fifth T20I between India and West Indies.

Despite being reminded about Karthik’s numbers in T20 cricket ever since he started playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022, Jadeja refrained from picking the wicketkeeper batter in his team.

“But there, in the team, I would not pick him. Now the decision is whether you want to play Ravindra or Axar. If it’s Dhoni style, then add Kohli, Rohit and Karthik. But in modern-day cricket, you have to leave out Karthik. Maybe even Kohli depends on whether he is in form or not,” Jadeja added.

Notably, the Tamil Nadu-born cricketer, while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, scored 330 runs at an average of 55.00 and with a strike rate of 183.33 in the 15th season of IPL.
