While Stokes has decided to hang his boots in the 50-over format, he will continue to represent England in the other two formats, Tests and T20Is.

Ben Stokes announced on Monday that the first ODI against South Africa on Tuesday will be his last-ever affair in ODI cricket as he has decided to draw curtains on his illustrious career. With the 31-year-old hanging his boots in the 50-over format, cricket fans from across the globe shared their feelings. Many former, as well as active cricketers, also reacted to the news of Stokes’ retiring.

India’s former captain and batting stalwart Virat Kohli also commented on Ben Stokes’ Instagram post where he announced his decision. Kohli called the English all-rounder “the most competitive bloke he ever played against”. “You’re the most competitive bloke I’ve ever played against. Respect,” Kohli had commented on Stokes’ Instagram post.

Replying to his appreciation from Kohli, Stokes also heaped praise on the Indian batter and predicted that he will go down as one of the greatest cricketers. Stokes praised Kohli for bringing unmatched energy and said he admires the 33-year-old for the same. The Englishman further added that he loved every single minute he played against Kohli.

“The energy and the commitment that he gives to the game is something I have always really admired even before I started playing against him. When you play against guys like that you understand sort of what means to not just yourself but for everybody else who was lucky enough to play at the top level. I loved every single time I have played against him,” said Stokes.

Ready for more battles: Stokes

While Stokes has decided to hang his boots in the 50-over format, he will continue to represent England in the other two formats, Tests and T20Is. And the 31-year-old said that he is ready for more battles with Kohli while playing these two formats. “I’m sure we will have some other battles on the field. So, yes, it is nice to hear (what Kohli said),” he concluded.
