The highly-anticipated one-off Test between India and England started on Friday (1st July) at Edgbaston, in Birmingham. Jasprit Bumrah created history as he became the second fast bowler after Kapil Dev to lead Team India.

After being invited to bat first, India had a troublesome start as the visitors lost their first wicket in the form of Shubman Gill who could only add 17 runs. Gill's dismissal came in the 7th over of the match as experienced pacer James Anderson provided an early breakthrough to his side by luring Gill to play a delivery which was outside the off stump.

The ball with an extra bounce got an edge and Zak Crawley, who was stationed at second slip, took a comfortable catch. India was reduced to 27-1 in 6.2 overs. Shubman Gill earned sharp criticism from the former Indian batter Virendra Sehwag, who is part of the hindi commentary panel for the official broadcaster as the latter stated that the Indian opener was checking if slip fielders were sleeping or not. Sehwag said, "Shubman has given his wicket with such ease. It seems like Gill was checking if the fielders at slip were sleeping or not."

Speaking of the match, India has currently scored 53-runs in 20.1 overs at the expense of two wickets. Hanuma Vihari (14 off 46) and Virat Kohli (1 off 7) are currently present at the middle.
