Shreyas Iyer is all geared up to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022. He is all set to don the purple and gold this year, heading to the season on the back of some scintillating performances for Team India across all formats. The 27-year-old played some mesmerizing knocks with the bat and is currently one of the most in-form players in world cricket.

Ahead of the franchise cricket season, the newly-appointed KKR captain went on to reveal his favourite captain. Shreyas has notably played under many different captains like Gautam Gambhir and Rishabh Pant in IPL, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in international cricket. But as turns out, he has enjoyed the most while playing under the leadership of KL Rahul in South Africa.

I really enjoyed playing under KL: Shreyas

Reflecting on the same, Iyer said, "It was nice to play under him (KL). Firstly, he is an outstanding player. The confidence he carries on the field and in the team meetings, the support that he provides to the players is great. He’s got a very calm demeanor and his on-field decision-making is very instinctive. I really enjoyed playing under him," while speaking on Red Bull Cricket Room on Clubhouse.

Interestingly, the 27-year-old also went on to reveal why KL is his favourite captain and the reason was indeed quite hilarious. "Also, he gave me three overs of bowling, which none of the captains previously had done. So yeah, he’s my favourite captain!" Shreyas added.

It happened during the 3rd ODI between India and South Africa at Cape Town when KL Rahul was the stand-in captain for Team India in absence of Rohit Sharma. With India on cusp of 3-0 whitewash, Shreyas Iyer had been handed the ball where he rolled over his arms conceding 21 runs in 3 overs.

All eyes on Rahul and Iyer in IPL 2022

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are considered as India's possible options for leadership positions in future. As they get set to lead Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively, in the new era of IPL, their captaincy skills and leadership qualities will be seriously tested.

The duo will have a golden opportunity to make a long-lasting impression in front of national selectors and fans as BCCI might look to identify the possibly options for Rohit Sharma's successor in next 12 months.
