India required only 43 minutes on Monday morning, Day 2 of the second Test match to register their biggest-ever win by runs in Tests. New Zealand’s lower middle-order collapsed under the pressure built by Indian spinners. Haryana spinner Jayant Yadav scalped four wickets early on Day 4 to help India move closer to the win, before Ravichandran Ashwin picked the last wicket.

Notably, the victory is India’s third of the current ICC World Test Championship (2021-2023) cycle. With the help of this victory, India maintained their third position in the World Test Championship 2021-23 points table behind Sri Lanka and Pakistan. India have 58.33 win percentage. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are placed at the top as they have a 100 percent win record. They are followed by Pakistan, who have 66.66 win percentage.

Team India has won three out of six Tests now with one defeat while two matches have ended in a draw. These matches have been played across two series and they have a total of 42 points and their Percentage of Points (PCT) currently stands at 58.33.

India go top of Test rankings

With their comprehensive victory on Monday, India displaced the World Test Champions New Zealand from the top spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings. Ashwin was named the 'Player of the Series' for taking 14 wickets in two games while Mayank Agarwal was named the 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding batting. Moreover, India jumped to 124 rating points while New Zealand dropped to 121 points.
