With the world quickly moving towards electric vehicles, a Formula E race is all set to rock the streets of Hyderabad next year. Reports have suggested that Formula E will be making its debut in India in February next year when a full-fledged race will take place in the state. Mahindra Racing CEO and team principal Dilbagh Gill made the revelations on the sidelines of the first-ever Formula E race in Jakarta.

While talking to news agency PTI, Dilbagh Gill revealed that organizers are in talk with the Telangana government and an official announcement about the same is due this month. “Cautiously optimistic is the correct word to use. The race should take place on February 11. We are in constant talks with the Telangana government. The race is on track and an announcement will be made this month,” Gill told PTI.

Talking more about the race and the proposed track, he said, “It is a beautiful track which has been proposed and the infrastructure is really nice. I am confident we will put on a world-class show. It is also one of the fastest tracks on the calendar.”

Gill went on to add that the race will take place around the lake in Hyderabad and the team is looking to have it under the lights.

We are in conversation with Indian talents: Gill

The Mahindra team principal further talked about the involvement of Indian drivers. Gill is of the opinion that talent can come from anywhere but he is aware of the fact that there are some really good drivers coming from India and the team will have a talk with them. “When we started one of our pillars was to grow Mahindra as a global brand headquartered in India. For us talent can come from anywhere,” he said.

“There are some very good drivers coming out of India, Jehan Daruvala, Arjun Maini and his brother Kush is also rising up the ranks. We are in conversations with the Indian talent but at the same time, we want to be sure they will be successful", he added.
