Ahead of South Africa's five-match T20I series against India, their limited-overs captain Temba Bavuma has expressed his desire to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said that not only does he want to play in the IPL which will become a realistic possibility when he continues to do well in international cricket but even wants to lead a franchise at some point.

Notably, Bavuma will lead the South African contingent against India in the shortest format series commencing on June 9 in Delhi. The Proteas will face a KL Rahul-led Indian side in absence of several senior cricketers who have been handed a short break after IPL 2022.

"I would like to play there (Indian Premier League). The stronger my performances, the more realistic the opportunity becomes. I’ve also developed this fantasy of captaining a team. I don’t know where that comes from. I’d like to get that experience as well. But I kinda need to get into a team before that happens," Bavuma said on Cricket Monthly.

In addition, Bavuma shared his views on the performances of several South African in IPL 2022.

"It’s nice to see some of our guys doing well. KG (Kagiso Rabada) is en route to being the quickest to 100 wickets. That’s something to be proud of. And Marco Jansen — how he has gone and performed. Or Aiden (Markram) And even the younger guys who have shown their ability. There is a lot of talk about Dewald Brevis. He is an exciting prospect for our cricket. And Tristan Stubbs, getting a go. It’s been nice to see those guys," he added.
