The five-time champions Mumbai Indians registered their maiden victory in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League after beating Rajasthan Royals by five wickets. Batter Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma were instrumental in Mumbai’s chase after the bowlers restricted Rajasthan to 158 in 20 overs.
While Hrithik Shokeen and Riley Meredith clinched two wickets in the game, debutant Kumar Kartikeya impressed everyone with his bowling spell as he conceded just 19-runs in four overs and picked one wicket. Kumar’s maiden wicket came in the form of Sanju Samson, who was looking extremely dangerous at one moment. Kumar, who recently joined the squad as a replacement for Arshad Khan, confessed that he was quite nervous before making his IPL debut.
Adding further, Kumar said that he planned overnight for every batter and was trying to bowl on the pads to Samson. Hailing from a humble background in UP’s Sultanpur, the MI bowler revealed that he has not visited his home in the last nine years. “I haven’t visited my home for nine years. I had decided to return home only when I achieved something in life. My mom and dad called me frequently, but I was committed,” he informed Dainik Jagran.
However, Kumar Kartikeya Singh also confirmed that after the IPL, he would return home. Talking about the game, Rajasthan were restricted to 158 after Mumbai bowlers’ impressive show in the first innings. Orange cap holder Jos Buttler played yet another fine knock in the game by scoring 67 runs off 52 deliveries. In response, Mumbai Indians chased down the target after impressive knocks from Surykumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and a blistering cameo from Tim David towards the end.
