Shreyas Iyer believes in moving on and taking up every match as a fresh match to prove his worth in the squad. After guiding India to a clean sweep in a three-match T20I series by defeating Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I in Dharamsala on Sunday, Iyer spoke about his mindset and approach towards every game with Yuzvendra Chahal. Notably, Iyer was rewarded with Player of the Tournament after he amassed 204 runs at a strike rate of 174 without being dismissed even once in the series.

Iyer played a valuable 73-run knock in 45 balls while chasing a total of 146 in the 3rd T20I. The batter played valuable innings in all three matches and proved his authority at number 3 by remaining unbeaten in all the matches. While speaking to Yuzvendra Chahal after third T20I, Iyer said that he prefers to forget his past performances and takes every match as a fresh opportunity to prove his worth in the squad.

In response to Chahal's questions about his approach towards the game, Iyer answered, "It's healthy to forget the previous performances and focus on the match we are playing at moment." Notably, Iyer scored an unbeaten 57 in 28 balls in the 1st T20I against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. While, the 2nd T20I brought the best out of him, as he scored blistering 74 in 44 balls and played valuable innings alongside Sanju Samson (39 off 25) and Ravindra Jadeja (45 off 18).

Iyer was awarded Player of the Match in both the first two matches. He hit three consecutive fifties in the three-match series and earned Player of the Tournament after guiding India to a second successive clean sweep at home turf. Earlier, Iyer had to warm the benches during the first two matches against West Indies, as Virat Kohli was available. But as the former skipper was rested from the last match, Iyer was included for the final game, where he scored 25 off 16.
