The Punjab Kings suffered their second defeat of IPL 2021 when they lost to Delhi Capitals, making them drop down to 7th spot in the early days of the tournament. Yet it hasn’t stopped the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle in believing in his squad. He rather feels that the KL Rahul-led squad has the ability to go all the way to clinch franchise's maiden IPL title.
Chris Gayle also emphasized his views on PBKS newest recruit Shahrukh Khan and Nicholas Pooran being the X-Factor for the team in the 14th edition of the IPL.
I’ve had three excellent years with Punjab: Chris Gayle
In an exclusive interaction with Inside Sport, Chris Gayle shared his experience with Punjab Kings in the IPL. “It’s been fantastic. I’ve had three excellent years with Punjab. The only thing that’s a bit unfortunate is the fact we didn’t make that extra step and get into the playoffs, we missed out twice, just to win one game and we fell short”, Gayle said.
Chris Gayle also shower praises on Shahrukh Khan and Nicholas Pooran and said that they are the X-factors of the team. "We have so many X factors, including some new incomings such as Shahrukh Khan. All those guys are X factors and can play a big part. All the new guys are ready to make a name for themselves, to make an impact within the team”, Gayle further added.
It remains to be seen whether or not Punjab Kings will be able to resurrect after their slow start in the IPL 2021 edition and what role will Chris Gayle play in doing so.
