India’s former skipper Virat Kohli has opened up on his association with his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, his wife Anushka’s connection with the city and how she feels when the team loses a match in a podcast released by the RCB franchise. Kohli also spoke about moments from cricketers’ life that the audience and cricket fans are least aware of and how such phases helps cricketers to grow and do well.

While speaking about his association with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli narrated that while he was leading the side in India U19 World Cup in Malaysia, the IPL drafts were taking place in India. “Me and boys in the team were excited for the IPL, as we were too new to understand the dynamics of the tournament and what future beholds. However, I heard the rumours that the Delhi team was after me, and they wanted to pick me, but due to some arithmetic in their team, they ended up picking Pradeep Sangwan, the left-arm fast bowler.” Adding further, Kohli also informed that his wife Anushka Sharma has spent a lot of time in Bangalore city and loves that he represents the city in IPL. “She gets extremely sad when RCB loses a match in IPL,” he added.

According to Kohli, the Delhi franchise decided to strengthen their bowling department due to which Pradeep was their preferred choice. But, Kohli expressed his gratitude towards the RCB franchise by saying, “Things would have been different if I was in Delhi franchise, but how RCB franchise has nurtured the staff and me has guided all the players, it’s been incredible.” Responding to host Dinesh Sait’s query over things which cricket fans are least aware of, Kohli said, “Moments which any cricketer spends alone in a hotel room are the toughest. To stay consistent with a performance at the top level where competition is extreme is tough, but when a player loses his form and struggles to perform, those are toughest moments”.

Kohli also recalled his early days when he came to Bangalore for the Under-14, Under-15 NCA camps and used to be there for 2-2.5 months at one stretch to explore the city of Bangalore. Virat Kohli has been one of the most loyal players in the RCB franchise and expressing his admiration Kohli said, “I can’t think of being in any other team than RCB”.
