The flavour of the coming season is T20! Not only are the high-profile franchise based leagues set to commence in the coming months, including the resumption of the Indian Premier League 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), even the ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to happen in October-November in the middle east. And ahead of the marquee event, the groups for the competition are set to be announced later today. 07:10 PM: Big day for the Cricket administrators in Oman which will not only get to host a few matches of the tournament but were chosen to host this draw announcement event.

03:47 PM: The big news is that India-Pakistan are set to meet each other in the Group stage and thus are set to meet each other at least once.

03:40 PM: Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands and Namibia are in the Group A of qualifying rounds while Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea are in Group B. Group 1 has England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, along with winner of Group A and runner-up of Group B.

03:30 PM: India- Pakistan drawn in same group in T20 World Cup 2021. New Zealand, Afghanistan, Runner-Up of Group A from qualifiers as well as winner of Group B are also in the same Group 2.

2: 53 PM: An ICC release has confirmed that a total of 16 teams will participate in the tournament. While the first 8 have been decided based on their rankings, the other eight will compete in the first round qualifiers, four of which will compete against the first eight in the Super 12 round.

First Round Qualifiers competing teams:

Sri Lanka, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Oman, Bangladesh, Scotland, Namibia and The Netherlands will be drawn in 2 groups.  (Top 4 teams from these will join the  eight sides in the Super 12 round.)

Eight teams which have already qualified:

India, West Indies, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan.

2: 36 PM: At what stage of the competition are we likely to see the mother of all contests- India vs Pakistan clash? We should probably have the answer in around an hour's time.

2: 30 PM: Just about an hour away from the schedule start of the draw announcement.

12: 36 PM: While the groups are set to be out today, the schedule can take another week before the exact fixtures are announced.

12: 15 PM: It is being reported that ICC T20 World Cup draws announcement ceremony will be attended by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly along with other Board officials. The event is slated for a 3:30 pm (IST) start.

11: 25 AM: Still some good 4 hours away from the scheduled announcement of the groups of the Men's T20 World Cup. It's been quite a journey already with the ICC event already being pushed back by a year owing to the pandemic and then being relocated to the UAE  due to the COVID-19 situation in India. Having said that, fans will hope that their extended wait is worth the wait and the tournament live up to its reputation of being a blockbuster!
