The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is just around the corner, and T20 mega bonanza is all set to treat cricket fans with the action-packed battle between bat and ball. While all the ten franchises will be eying to do well in the cash-rich league, even players are coming in the tournament with their ambitions. India's prolific opening batter Shikhar Dhawan has expressed his optimism by saying that he aims to get a spot in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition by performing well in IPL 2022.

Dhawan revealed that an impressive outing in the franchise-based tournament can help him earn his place in the ICC T20 World Cup, and he will look forward to making an impact. "T20 World Cup is scheduled for later this year, and I am aware that If I do well in IPL, I can get into the side," Dhawan was reportedly quoted by TOI. Notably, Dhawan played his last T20I match in July 2021 against Sri Lanka and was the fourth-highest run-getter in the previous IPL 2021. Despite performing well with the bat, Dhawan could not earn a spot in the squad for T20 World Cup 2021. Instead, Ishan Kishan was given a chance.

Since then, Dhawan has only been considered for ODIs and has been recently dropped from Grade A to Grade C in the BCCI Central contract list. Nonetheless, Dhawan reckons an impressive show in IPL 2022 can see him getting a recall in the T20I side. However, Dhawan will represent Punjab Kings in the upcoming edition and will play under the leadership of Mayank Agarwal. Hence, the veteran will look to maximise the opportunities to get into the T20 World Cup squad, scheduled to take place in October and November in Australia.
