Alfa Romeo’s driver Zhou Guanyu gave an update on his health after surviving a horrifying crash at the main race of the British Grand Prix 2022. The 23-year-old shared a picture of himself and said he is okay. The Chinese driver also thanked everyone for their kind messages. Notably, Guanyu’s Alfa Romeo took a spin at the start of the main race.

“I’m ok, all clear. Halo saved me today. Thanks everyone for your kind messages!” wrote Guanyu on Twitter alongside his picture.

Zhou was involved in a spine-shivering accident at the main race of the British GP 2022. His car took multiple flips before crashing into the side barricades. Williams’ driver Alex Albon was also involved in a separate incident.

As Max Verstappen pipped pole-sitter, Carlos Sainz, to the first corner there was "carnage" behind with Zhou Guanyu's Alfa Romeo hurtling upside down into the gravel. George Russell's Mercedes, Alpine's Esteban Ocon, Yuki Tsunoda (Alpha Tauri), and the Williams of Alex Albon were also involved.

Nonetheless, both the drivers were escorted safely and were taken to the medical center. The FIA then confirmed that Zhou Guanyu and Alex Albon were both conscious after the crash and were taken to the Silverstone medical center.

“The FIA advises that following the incident at the start of the race, emergency crews were immediately in attendance, and the drivers of Car 23 (Albon) and Car 24 (Zhou) have been taken to the medical centre. “Both drivers were conscious and will be evaluated at the medical centre. Further updates will be given in due course,” it added.

The FIA later confirmed that neither driver had sustained a serious injury, but that Albon had been taken by helicopter to nearby Coventry Hospital for precautionary checks. Notably, the race continued after a short break after the crash. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz who had claimed pole position secured his maiden F1 win in his 150th Grand Prix. He pipped Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton finish at the top.
