Preview

Temba Bavuma’s South Africa have taken a 2-0 lead after they beat India in the second T20I as well. It was almost a repeat of the first game with the score being the only difference. India posted a challenging total and stayed in the hunt till the half of the South Africa innings. But then Heinrich Klaasen changed the course of the game with his quickfire knock. The Rishabh Pant-led team has been put under pressure by the visiting team and it remains to be seen how it responds to these two losses when the two teams meet on Tuesday (14 June) for the 3rd T20I.

Pitch Report

The Vishakhapatnam pitch has generally suited batters in the early part of an innings. However, with the ball getting older, it helps spinners a bit. The boundaries at the venue are significantly smaller making it a perfect place for power-hitters.

Team Analysis

India

The hosts have encountered a few problems in the first two games. The opening partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan has not got going as the former has lost his wickets early in the innings. Shreyas Iyer has played the anchor in both games but his slow scoring rate is not working well with India’s strategy. Captain Rishabh Pant has failed to go big which has created problems for the finishers. Hardik Pandya played a good-looking innings in the 1st T20I but he struggled in the 2nd T20I. In bowling, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel failing to put pressure on the South African batters has weakened India’s defense. However, even with the players struggling, the Pant-Dravid duo may refrain from making a change to the eleven as this is the best batch.

South Africa

While India have struggled to put on an emphatic performance, South Africa have done the opposite. The Temba Bavuma-led team has been clinical in both games so far. The toss has also gone in their favor. In bowling, the pace trio of Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje has done a great job of not allowing Indian batters to score freely. Keshav Maharaj has also been good on the limited occasions he has got a chance. In batting, while it was Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller in the first T20I, it was Temba Bavuma and Heinrich Klaasen in the second T20I. Now, it is to be seen if South Africa make a change if either Aiden Markram or Quinton de Kock is available.

Match Prediction

Conclusion

With two losses on the trot, India will be gutted to win the 3rd T20I. Also, South Africa have never played a T20 match in Visakhapatnam. Thus, India will be the favorite to win the 3rd T20I.
