India's swing bowler Deepak Chahar sustained an injury during the third T20I against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday. So serious was the nature of the injury that he could not complete his over and had to leave the field. Deepak only bowled 1.5 overs in the game and now it has been confirmed that the right-arm pacer has in fact sustained a hamstring pull.

The extent of the damage to his hamstring is yet to be confirmed. While a tear in the hamstring may even make him a doubtful starter for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, a pull would mean a relatively quicker comeback into cricketing action. In all probability though, the 29-year-old pacer is likely to miss the Sri Lanka series which commences on Thursday (February 24).

It is prominent to note that a grade one tear usually takes around six weeks for complete recovery. If Deepak has sustained this tear, it would definitely not be the best of news for the MS Dhoni-led franchise who had spent INR 14 crores to have him back in the team. As of now, the BCCI has hinted that the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League could commence in the last week of March, although an official fixtures list is awaited.

As far as the West Indies T20I is concerned, India eventually managed to win by 17 runs and claim the series 3-0. While Chahar had taken 2 wickets in the 11 deliveries that he bowled, Venkatesh Iyer, who had to fill in for Deepak, also grabbed another two. Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with 3 wickets for 22 runs.

However, it was Suryakumar Yadav who was adjudged the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series. SKY came in to bat at a difficult situation in the final T20I and helped the Men in Blue post 184/5 with his quickfire innings of 65 from 31.

"Just wanted to replicate what I did in the first game. It was important to stay till the end when Rohit got out. We had a chat in our team meetings as well as to how we are going to react in such situations. I'm just trying to repeat the same things which I have been doing in the last few games," Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation.
