More than just a name, Rahul Dravid is a personality many budding cricketers aspire to be. Whatever is said in praise of him cannot suffice as the work the veteran has done for Indian cricket will be remembered for a long time. From playing match-saving knocks for India to nurturing the young talents at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy, Dravid has come a long way to set a benchmark that is hard to be matched by anyone in the upcoming time.
Nation calling was round the corner for Dravid after India’s outgoing coach Ravi Shastri confirmed his departure post his tenure. The consequences saw Dravid being offered the post of India’s head coach and the legendary cricketer took over the duties. However, despite being in a position of greater limelight, Dravid has made his humility remains intact and a recent gesture from the cricket great was just an example of that.
What a gesture from Rahul Dravid!
The game between India and New Zealand at the Green Park stadium of Kanpur ended in a draw after Ajaz Patel and Rachin Ravindra did well to stick to the wicket and help the Kiwi side salvage a draw despite losing 9 wickets in pursuit of a daunting target set by the hosts. While everyone was expecting the pitch to deteriorate on Day 5 of the game, the surface at the venue held on to its character till the last ball of the match, making the affair a true nail-biter with equal help to the bowler and the batters.
Though the quality of the pitch remained the same till the last ball of the game worked against India, the team’s head coach Rahul Dravid wasted no time in acknowledging the beauty of the surface. Meanwhile, he also gave INR 35,000 to the groundsmen of the Green Park stadium who had prepared the pitch. The news of Rahul felicitating the groundsmen of the venue came to the fore after the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association announced the news in the press box after the game.
“We would like to make an official announcement. Mr Rahul Dravid has paid Rs 35,000 personally to our groundsmen,” said the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association.
