The much-awaited 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham have finally started with the best athletes from around the globe competing in more than 20 sports. India has had some incredible results over the history of the event with an overall tally of 504 medals with 181 gold, 173 silver and 149 bronze.

India’s most successful events have been shooting, weightlifting and wrestling as these sports alone have bagged 362 medals. Similarly, for the 2022 edition, India has sent out a dominant contingent with stars like Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Sharath Kamal, etc. to keep their medal hopes alive.

Indian hockey team settle with Silver, lose 0-7 against Australia

India's wait for maiden gold medal in hockey at the Commonwealth Games continued as Australia defeated Indian men's hockey team in the final on Monday. Team India had to settle with a silver after losing 0-7 against the Aussies in Birmingham.

Sharath Kamal wins GOLD in Men’s TT Singles

40-year-old Achanta Sharath Kamal defeated England's Liam Pitchford to win another gold for India. After going down 11-13 in the first set, he clinched the next four sets to continue his dominance. He won the game 11-7,11-2,11-6, 11-8.

India's Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won bronze medal in men’s singles table tennis event on Monday after defeating England's Paul Drinkhall in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Sathiyan won the bronze medal match 4-3 against his English opponent.

Lakshya Sen wins GOLD in Men’s Singles

World No.10 and India’s ace shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated NG Tze Yong of Malaysia in the Men’s Singles Final to win the gold medal at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games. Sen won the match 2-1 despite lagging in the first game. He beat Tze Yong 19-21, 21-9, 21-16.

PV Sindhu wins her first-ever gold in Women’s Singles in CWG

PV Sindhu clinched her first-ever gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Monday. Sindhu won the game against Canada's Li in straight sets 21-15, 21-13 to take India's 56th medal.

India Women’s hockey team wins BRONZE!

The Indian women's hockey team won BRONZE, defeating New Zealand in a penalty shootout. Women in Blue took a 1-0 lead with a help of Salima Tete's beautiful goal. But an equaliser in the last few minutes helped New Zealand to level. Eventually, two back to back goals in the penalty shootout helped the Indian side win take the bronze.

India’s Deepak Nehra settles for bronze

India's Deepak Nehra won a bronze in a neck-and-neck battle against Pakistan's Tayab Raza in men's 97kg freestyle wrestling. He secured four points but it was soon challenged by his opponent, who won it. The score reduced to 2-0, with the Indian still having a lead.
Raza did earn points  but the time out whistle blew with Nehra leading 10-2 and winning a bronze for India.

Sakshi Malik wins gold in 62kg wrestling, Bajrang Punia clinches gold in 65kg

Bajrang Punia gave India its first gold medal in the sport of wrestling at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Friday. Minutes later, Sakshi Malik added another gold in the same sport. While Bajrang beat Canada's Lachlan McNeil in the men's 65kg freestyle wrestling final, Sakshi got the better of Canada's Ana Gonzalez in the women's 62kg category.

Anshu Malik wins SILVER, loses gold medal match 3-7

Indian wrestler Anshu Malik lost in the summit clash to settle for a silver medal in the Women's Freestyle 57 kg wrestling. While she had defeated Sri Lanka's Nethmi Poruthotage 10-0 to reach the gold medal match, she could not repeat her heroics in the summit clash. She lost to Nigerian Odunayo Adekuoroye 3-7 in this bout.
