India winning the toss opted to bat first and posted a very good total of 258/4 on board with a terrific unbeaten 113 run partnership from Shreyas Iyer-Ravindra Jadeja for the 5th wicket. Initially, Shubman Gill's knock of 52 from 93 balls gave a very good start to India and set the stage for middle order batting. Among New Zealand bowlers Kyle Jamieson was very impressive with bowling figures of 3/47 while Tim Southee picked the important wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara. Shreyas was very impressive in his debut Test itself and will resume Day 2 with just 25 runs short of his century.
