Preview

IPL 2022 is over but that doesn’t put an end to cricketing action in India. With franchise duties done, players now shift their focus to national duty, the first of which involves taking on South Africa in a 5-match T20I series. The 1st T20I will be played on 9 June in Delhi. While Rishabh Pant will be leading the Indian side, Temba Bavuma has the charge of the Proteas. It is going to be an interesting battle considering memories of IPL 2022 are still afresh.

Pitch Report

The pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium is generally sluggish. However, with shorter boundaries, it’s a tad easier for the batters. For bowlers, there will be slowness to exploit.

Team Analysis

India

India are playing with a relatively younger team with Rishabh Pant leading the pack. Being the local boy, Pant will have an idea about how to make things happen. He will have Hardik Pandya to aid in decision-making. After a blockbuster IPL 2022, Hardik Pandya will be the center of attraction. Dinesh Karthik may also get a go-ahead considering the batting prowess he showed in IPL 2022. However, the young opening pair of Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be under the pump as both players had a mediocre season. Shreyas Iyer will also be gutted to get some runs under his belt after a hot-and-cold IPL.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan

South Africa

The visitors have selected the first-string side for the 5 T20Is and will be eager to dominate from the first game itself. South Africa have a few in-form players in Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada. With reports confirming Tristan Stubbs debut, he can also come in handy in the middle order. In bowling, Anrich Nortje did not have a great IPL but having played for DC, he will have some past experiences to take a leaf from. Tabraiz Shamsi’s role will also be crucial considering the slowness in the pitch. For the all-rounder’s role, Dwaine Pretorious will hope to take the onus on himself.
