With the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) into its business end, the focus now shifts to India’s international matches. It’s time for the Indian players to regroup and prepare for the upcoming assignment in the form of T20Is against South Africa. Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be hosting South Africa for a five-match T20I series between 9 to 19 June.

The schedule for all five games has been released by the Indian cricket board. The first game of the T20I series will be played on 9 June at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The caravan will then move to Cuttack (Odisha) where the second match will be played at the Barabati Stadium on 12 June. The third and fourth matches will be played on 14 and 17 June respectively. The series will conclude with the final game played on 19 June at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav ruled out of T20 series

India's stand-in captain for the series, KL Rahul, and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have been ruled out of the entire series with injuries. While Rahul has suffered a groin injury, Yadav sustained an injury in his hand.

Entire Indian squad will have to pass fitness test post IPL to feature in home series vs SA

In a recent report, it is being claimed that the entire Indian contingent selected for the home series against South Africa will have to undergo a mandatory fitness test before the series commences. “All players for South Africa series will have to assemble for a fitness camp at NCA. It’s important as many of them are carrying niggles. Harshal still has stitches and we want to make sure everything is fine,” a senior BCCI official was quoted in an InsideSport report.

Young India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi is excited to be part of the India squad for the T20I series against South Africa. He has also said that they would give his best whenever he gets an opportunity in the series. Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are the other spinners who are in the squad. “I am very excited because it is a good opportunity for me as playing for India is everyone’s dream. I will give my best whenever I get the opportunity,” Bishnoi said in a video shared on his IPL team Lucknow Super Giant's social media.

Rahul Dravid called Shikhar Dhawan before dropping senior opener from T20I squad: Reports

While initial reports had suggested that either Shikhar Dhawan or Hardik Pandya could captain the squad against South Africa, it came as a surprise when the announcement was made on Sunday. KL Rahul was named the captain and while Hardik did make a comeback into the team, there was no mention of Dhawan. It is now being learned that head coach Rahul Dravid personally called Dhawan to inform that the team would be looking beyond him in the shortest format of the game. The 36-year-old might have runs under his belt but with players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal along with senior batter KL Rahul all quality top-orders waiting for their chance, the management has decided to move on from Dhawan as far as T20Is are concerned.

Reports suggest that head coach Rahul Dravid and NCA head VVS Laxman who is touted to be with the Indian team as head of the coaching staff for the South Africa and Ireland series are expected to join the selection committee meet headed by Chairman Chetan Sharma on Sunday. A recent report now claims that Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Harshal Patel who sustained an injury during the match against Gujarat Titans could miss the South Africa series.
