The T20I series opener between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Lucknow behind closed doors. While there were all sorts of speculation regarding the venue for the T20I series, sources close to SportsTiger have confirmed that at least the opening match will go ahead in Lucknow but behind closed doors.

SportsTiger had earlier already reported that the T20Is will be played first which will be followed by the Test series, in contrast to the schedule decided earlier. This was following a request by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board as they wanted an easier bubble to bubble transfer with their T20I team set to be touring Australia prior to the India series.

In addition, it has also been confirmed that the Bengaluru Test of the home series against Sri Lanka will be a pink-ball affair, India’s third at home after the one against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in 2019 and against England in Ahmedabad in February 2021.

“Yes, the pink-ball Test will be happening in Bengaluru. We have not decided on all the venues for the Sri Lanka series yet, but it will be announced shortly,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

IPL 2022 will be held in India, Women’s T20 Challenge to happen in May: Ganguly

In addition, Ganguly also confirmed that the IPL 2022 will be held in India until and unless a dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases happens in the country. He added that Maharashtra could host the league games.

“It will be held in India this year, until and unless Covid-19 hits the roof. As far as venues are concerned, we are looking at hosting the matches in Maharashtra — Mumbai, and Pune. We will take a call on the venues for the knockout stages later,” he stated in the same interview.

In addition, the former India captain said that the Women’s T20 challenge, which could not be held last year, will happen with the IPL Playoffs in May.
