Preview:

Mumbai City will lock horns with Odisha on Wednesday as we come towards the final few matches of the league phase in Indian Football League. Both the sides have had completely contrasting seasons so far. While Mumbai have already qualified for the play-offs, Odisha have been reeling at the bottom of the table throughout the season.

However, the recent form of both the teams has been quite similar as they suffered two defeats in last two matches. With this being their penultimate game of this season’s league stages, both Mumbai and Odisha will be hoping to get a positive result when the two sides clash on Wednesday at GMC Stadium.

Key Players:

Team News

Odisha:

The Kalinga Warriors should have all their players available for this contest. There is a slight doubt over Rakesh Pradhan after the defender was substituted at the half-time break against FC Goa in the previous match. However, it could have just been a precautionary measure as Rakesh was on a yellow card and he is most likely to start this contest.

Mumbai City:

The Islanders will be without their star-midfielder Hugo Boumous, who had received a two-match suspension after receiving a red card against FC Goa on February 8. However, the suspension was subsequently increased to four matches after Boumous was found guilty of insulting and defaming the match officials.

Analysis:

Odisha FC have had a forgettable campaign in the Indian Football League, having won only 1 match this season. They are coming to this contest on the back of heavy 3-1 defeats at the hands of NorthEast United & Goa. They have conceded 33 goals this season and have failed to keep a clean sheet in previous 8 matches. Diego Mauricio has been their only positive of the season, with 10 goals. He will have to be on the score-sheet once again if Gerald Peyton’s side wants to pull off an upset on Wednesday.

Mumbai City are currently placed second in the points table and have confirmed their place in the play-offs. However, their recent run-of-form would be a cause of concern for Sergio Lobera. After an epic 3-3 draw against FC Goa, Mumbai suffered two back-to-back losses against Bengaluru and Jamshedpur. The Islanders would certainly be hoping to come up with a clinical performance against a struggling Odisha side and take some winning momentum to the play-offs.
