Preview:

What a blockbuster of a clash is waiting for us on Sunday. It is going to be Virat Kohli vs Rohit Sharma- the two of the finest in world cricket- will have a go at the Dubai International Stadium in the evening match of the second double-header of the UAE leg Indian T20 League. Both Bangalore and Mumbai are studded with match-winners who can win many matches pretty much single-handedly on their day. However, surprisingly both teams have not won a match single since the season resumption in September. In fact, both have succumbed to defeats against Chennai and Kolkata in the UAE leg and made their paths ahead more difficult for themselves.

It is all the more difficult for Mumbai who have 8 points from 9 matches compared to Bangalore who have 10 in 9 games, but a win for Mumbai here can completely change the table as some of the defeats Bangalore have faced this season have been of a huge margin and their Net Run Rate has consequently been severely impacted.

Bangalore will take heart from the fact though that in the reverse fixture earlier this season, the first match of the 2021 edition in April, it was the Kohli-led side who had registered a narrow win over Mumbai. Will it be Mumbai who will return the favour or will Bangalore hand a further setback to the Mumbai side looking to complete a hat-trick of titles? We shall find out when the action begins from 7:30 pm on Sunday.

Analysis:

Mumbai were in good positions in both the matches and dominated a significant portion of the two contests that have played in the UAE so far. However, they have failed to extend their domination and allowed the opposition to get back into the match. Bangalore, though, haven't had a dominant patch at all excluding the first 10 overs of their innings against Chennai where they scored 90/0. Moreover, while Mumbai can further be strengthened with the inclusion of Hardik Pandya around the corner but Bangalore's troubles seemed to have worsened with Wanindu Hasaranga not performing as expected.

The big question for Mumbai would be whether to stick with Ishan Kishan who hasn't been the batter he was for the side last year. With Saurabh Tiwary proving his utility in the changes that he has got, Kishan could even be made a scapegoat to make way for Pandya.

The pro-Fantasy tip for this match would be to finalise the XI after the toss. Both teams can make a few changes but it would be interesting to see who comes out on top in the end.

Dafabet Prediction of the Game:

Head to head: Over Mumbai and Bangalore have faced each other as many as 28 times in Indian T20 League. It is Mumbai who have a better record in this fixture and they have won 17 matches. The remaining 11 have been clinched by Bangalore.

Recent form: While it is Mumbai who have dominated the overall head to head, in the last match that these two teams played it was Bangalore who had registered a narrow win. Having said that, Bangalore were cruising to a win in that fixture and should have registered a convincing victory but it was Mumbai's class that allowed them to take the match till the end.

UAE factor: The UAE factor, however, tilts the balance slightly in favour of Bangalore but just. In three matches, they have won two, compared to Mumbai's one. But for Mumbai's ability to reach the Playoffs from similar situations in the past and Bangalore's inability to perform crunch situations,  Mumbai should be able to overcome this challenge.
