The 18th match of the Indian Premier League will be one of the fascinating clashes of the season as Mumbai Indians will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 9 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Both the sides are having quite a contrasting run in the season, as MI are yet to register their maiden win, while Faf du Plessis’ side has got back their winning mojo and will come on the back to two successive wins.
Mumbai Indians are having a poor beginning to the season as they have been beaten by three opponents and yet to gain points in the points table. They lost by four wickets to Delhi Capitals before suffering a 23-run and five-wicket defeat by Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively. It has become crucial now for Mumbai that their skipper Rohit gets some run under his belt and leads from the front. His scores read 41, 10 and 3 in the first three games so far. The inclusion of Dewald Brevis has strengthened the batting lineup, the poor performance of bowlers like Australian Daniel Sams and Tymal Mills is a significant concern for the side.
Meanwhile, RCB has registered two wins from three games and is looking good after starting the season on a losing note. Led by Faf du Plessis, the side lost to Punjab Kings by five wickets in their opener before registering back-to-back wins over KKR (by three wickets) and Rajasthan Royals (by four wickets). Du Plessis, Anuj Rawat, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Shabaz Ahmed make the side formidable, while the inclusion of Glenn Maxwell will strengthen the side more. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has impressed many with his performance, while David Willey and Harshal Patel would have to do well to restrict MI. RCB also look for some consistency from Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.
