Although Kolkata have a chance to reach the final four and Hyderabad are in the middle of a disappointing season having already been knocked out of the race to the Playoffs, don’t mistake this to be a pushover for Kolkata. The very fact that SunRisers can’t go any further down from them, liberates them in a sense and give them the freedom- the same freedom which the fans have witnessed Kolkata play in the UAE leg of the competition.
However, Kolkata too succumbed to their defeat in their last match against Punjab and would need to recover soon before taking on Hyderabad, who were never really in it when the season resumed in UAE. With Kolkata looking desperately for a win and Hyderabad giving their youngsters a go along with some great T20 cricketers, this is likely to be a perfect end to the weekend on a delightful cricketing note.
What a revelation Venkatesh Iyer has been for the Kolkata side this season. While he has already scored two half-centuries in five innings after making his debut in the second leg this season against Bangalore, he also scored a handy knock in that game. Moreover, it is the manner in which Iyer has scored the runs that has helped his team off to greats starts. Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana have also been in great form and even Dinesh Karthik has got a good innings under his belt along with the form of their mystery spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine which has been impressive for them.
Their only cause of concern, a major one, in fact, is the lack of runs from Eoin Morgan and to some extent Shubman Gill. For Hyderabad, Jason Roy showed what he is capable of in T20 cricket and he would be eager to repeat a similar feat after a failure in the second match. Along with that Kane Williamson will be the other senior international cricketer who would want to regain some consistency, Wriddhiman Saha hasn’t been able to make his start count and youngsters like Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Gard would be eager to make a mark rather than just chip in with cameos.
The biggest plus for Hyderabad is the form of Jason Holder with the ball and if he and Rashid can share a 4-5 wicket spell between them while not giving away too much runs and other bowlers- the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar also chip in, there is no reason to believe why Hyderabad can’t spoil Kolkata’s party.
Probable Playing XI:
Kolkata: Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan (c), Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Tim Seifert, Sunil Narine, Shivam Mavi, Tim Southee, Varun Chakravarthy
Hyderabad: Jason Roy, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Kane Williamson (c), Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma
Dafabet Prediction of the Game-
Head to head: The overall head-to-head record tends to suggest that Kolkata have had the advantage in this rivalry as they have 13 wins in contrast to Hyderabad’s 7 in the 20 games they have played so far in the Indian T20 League.
UAE factor: Although the overall head-to-head record is poised in favour of Kolkata when it comes to UAE conditions, there is a win each to the credit of both sides in a total of 2 matches. However, their recent form suggests that Kolkata will have a slight advantage in the Middle East.
Wicketkeepers: Wriddhiman Saha, Dinesh Karthik
Batsmen: Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi, Jason Roy, Kane Williamson
All-rounders: Jason Holder, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine, Abhishek Sharma
