Preview: It is a national holiday in India on October 2 and cricket fans will dare not make another plan for the evening than watching two blockbuster cricket games lined up in the Indian T20 League. The first of these is going to be a fascinating game in a repeat of the last year's final. Defending champions Mumbai will face facing Delhi and while Delhi have more or less sealed their place in the playoffs they would want to reach 18 points and take a bit of a breather.
However, the pressure will be on Mumbai who still have a lot of work to do if they want to secure a place in the playoffs and that would also include winning against an in-form Delhi side. With so much at stake, expect both teams to give it their best shot and produce an entertaining game of cricket.
Analysis: Some of the team selection measures that Mumbai deployed in their match against Punjab bore dividends straight away. Consequently, Mumbai might look to settle with the same eleven now. Saurabh Tiwary and Nathan Coulter-Nile both played a key role in Mumbai's 6-wicket win over Punjab and at the end, one also witnessed some kind of return to form and rhythm from Hardik Pandya. Delhi though happened to lose their last match against Kolkata but have been consistent throughout the competition and would like to come back to winning ways against Mumbai. Prithvi Shaw and Marcus Stoinis are the players injured for them and if either or both recover, they should be able to walk back into the team.
People's Pick for Fantasy:
Probable Playing XI:
Mumbai: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult
Delhi: Shikhar Dhawan, Steven Smith/Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Lalit Yadav/Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan
Dafabet Prediction of the Day:
Head to Head: The two teams have faced each other a total of 29 times in the Indian T20 League. Clearly, it is the Rohit Sharma-led side who have had a better run as they have won 16 of these matches. In the other 13, it was Delhi who were the victors.
UAE factor: In fact, the UAE factor further tilts the balance in favour of the defending champions. Mumbai and Delhi have met each other 5 times in these conditions and 4 of these have gone in favour of Mumbai. In fact, all these 4 Mumbai wins came in the last season including Playoff 1 and the finals. With Mumbai probably saving their best form for the last and finding themselves in a bit of trouble, they should be able to use their experience and take the points over Delhi.
Wicketkeepers: Quinton de Kock, Rishabh Pant
Batsmen: Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw (if fit)
All-rounders: Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Axar Patel, Marcus Stoinis (if fit)
Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Trent Boult
