The Indian Women’s team is all set to host World Champions Australia for a five-match T20I series in December this year, Cricket Australia confirmed on Monday. However, the dates and venue for the games are yet to be revealed by either of the cricket boards.

Before that, the Indian women’s team will compete at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July before taking on hosts England in a white-ball series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is in September.

“It is the start of an exciting eight months for the team that also includes a tour to India, home series against Pakistan, the opportunity to play in the Hundred, and our own extended domestic season, before the T20 World Cup,” Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said.

Notably, the Indian women’s team last appeared at the international level in the ODI World Cup where they bowed out after the league stage itself (having finished in the fifth position). Post that, the Indian women’s team took part in the Senior Women’s T20 League (domestic tournament). Recently, the members of the women’s team took part in the fourth edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge where Harmanpreet Kaur’s Supernovas won their third title by beating Velocity in the final.

Commonwealth Games next stop for Indian Women’s team

As mentioned earlier, the next assignment for the Indian Women’s team is competing at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham slated to take place between 28 July and 7 August. Cricket will be making its debut in this edition of CWG. India along with seven other teams (Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Barbados, and Pakistan) will take part in the tournament.

India have been placed in Group A with Australia, Barbados, and Pakistan. India will begin their campaign against Australia on 29 July. They will next face Pakistan on 31 July. India will play their last league game against Barbados on 3 August. The top two teams from both groups will qualify for the knockouts (Semifinal 1 and Semifinal 2, to be played on 6 August). The Final for the gold medal will be played on 7 August. A Bronze medal match will also be played on the same day.
