After winning silver medal in the women's 4x400 metres relay, India's Rupal Choudhary has won a bronze medal in women's 400 metres at the U20 World Athletics Championships 2022 in Cali, Colombia. Rupal recorded a personal best of 51.85 seconds on Thursday night in her bronze-winning race.

Yemi Mary John (51.50) of Great Britain and Damaris Mutunga (51.71) of Kenya claimed the gold and the silver medal respectively in the women's 400 metres race.

The 17-year-old Indian sprinter earlier won the silver medal in women's 4x400 metres mixed relay team event in the U20 World Athletics Championships 2022 as the Indian team registered a new Asian record with a timing of 3 minutes and 17.76 seconds.

Rupal's bronze is the ninth overall medal for the country at the ongoing championships as India are currently joint-17th in the medal table alongside Eritrea. India had won only three medals in the 2021 edition of the championships in Nairobi.

Currently, the United States of America are at the top of the standings with five gold, two silver and three bronze. Kenya (3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze) and South Africa (2 gold, 2 bronze) are at the second and the third spot respectively.
