The 8th match of the Indian Premier League 2021 will be played between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. CSK lost its IPL 2020 season opener to Delhi Capitals on Saturday and will look to bounce back strongly after a 5-day break.

On the other hand, Punjab Kings got off to a morale-boosting start to the season as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by 4 runs in a hard-fought encounter. Punjab Kings could not reach playoffs in IPL 2020 due to their incredibly slow start last season. Punjab will be eager to carry on the winning momentum here against Chennai. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in a high-voltage contest in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Team News

Chennai Super Kings:

All players are available for this match against Punjab Kings. The team will have to step up after they lost to Delhi Capitals in the tournament opener on Sunday, April 10.

Punjab Kings:

Punjab have a settled team at the moment with skipper KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda in red-hot form in the batting department.  It is hard to imagine Punjab will make any changes to their line-up after that confidence-boosting victory over Rajasthan. Though Chris Jordan could come into the team in place of Riley Meredith.

Key Players

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul is the top run-scorer for Punjab Kings with 91 runs at a strike rate of 188. He struck 7 fours and 5 sixes during his whirlwind knock against Rajasthan. The Kings skipper thrives on added responsibility and the swashbuckling wicket-keeper will again be at the center of attention against Chennai.

Suresh Raina:

Suresh Raina made a successful comeback for the Chennai Super Kings and the southpaw adds the much-needed experience and runs to the CSK batting department. Raina is one of the most reliable middle-order batsmen in the competition and his past IPL performances are a testament to this fact. However, Raina will have to do something special to fire CSK into the playoffs this season.

Deepak Hooda:

Hooda's belligerent hitting powered Punjab Kings in the death overs and helped set a mammoth 222-run target for Rajasthan. The swashbuckling all-rounder was hitting sixes at will, prompting Irfan Pathan to say, He is a fine talent. He is someone who can serve India and do well.” Hooda will have to continue his run-scoring momentum to get in the reckoning for Team India.
