The 2022 Indian Premier League has been highly anticipated because of the Mega Auction. This year, the franchise could retain only four players leading to a complete change in the tournament. Just like the Auction, the IPL opening ceremony has also been a key attraction for the fans. We have seen Indian as well as international superstars performing on the biggest sporting stage in the country.

But for the 4th successive year, BCCI has decided to cancel the opening ceremony. The board has made the decision citing COVID - 19 restrictions. The ceremony hasn't taken place after 2018 due to various reasons. The 2019 event was cancelled to pay tributes to individuals who lost their lives in the Pulwama Attacks. The money allocated for the event was then donated to the families of the Martyrs.  Similarly, the last two opening ceremonies were called off because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In the 2018 event, Indian stars like Parineeti Chopra, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Hrithik Roshan performed. It was also reported that actor Ranveer Singh was on the lineup but he had to pull out due to some injury and was replaced by Hrithik Roshan.

The year before that, the IPL had organised eight different shows in eight venues. Stars like Disha Patani. Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon, Parineeti Chopra, Amy Jackson, and Shraddha Kapoor all performed at the event.

The tournament is all set to kick-off on March 26 with match between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and last year runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders.
