Ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction, there have been lot of talks around the captains of various franchises for the next season. While 7 teams have already announced their skippers, 3 sides - KKR, RCB and PBKS - have not yet named their leaders. As expected, there is special focus on Royal Challengers Bangalore, primarily because of the fact that Virat Kohli won't be their captain anymore.

The 33-year-old had made the announcement during IPL 2021 that it would be his last season as the skipper of the team. Although he was retained by RCB and will be a part of leadership group, he won't be the face to lead the side going ahead.

Unsurprisingly, RCB have been linked to names like Shreyas Iyer, David Warner, Eoin Morgan etc. ahead of upcoming mega auction. However, former head coach of the franchise, Daniel Vettori, believes that the side might have a solution to their problem within their ranks.

Reflecting on the possible replacement of Virat Kohli as RCB captain for IPL 202, the 43-year-old interestingly chose Glenn Maxwell, who has been retained by the franchise.

“I believe Maxwell was retained with the view that he is a possible captaincy choice. He has executed a very good job with the Melbourne Stars. He has been energetic, he has most likely been in a number of methods much like Kohli, most likely not fairly to the identical degree or enthusiasm. However, I believe he is undoubtedly a man who has led from the entrance,” said Vettori in conversation with ESPNcricinfo.

The Kiwi added that Virat Kohli will play a crucial role in deciding his successor and according to him, Maxwell will indeed be one of the candidates who will be considered by RCB for the position. Talking about other two franchises, Vettori claimed that Mayank Agarwal could be a possible captaincy choice for PBKS while KKR might go for someone in mega auction, who fits their analytical criteria.
