With every passing hour, the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions are getting closer. The scheduled dates, 12 and 13 February don't look too far now. While the fans are excited to see the ten franchises competing to get their favorite players in their setup, the players will be equally nervous. A total of 590 players are set to go under the hammer while 33 players have already been retained/picked by the ten teams.
Players may have a team's name on their minds even if they don't talk about it. India's wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik also hinted about his dream franchise ahead of the mega auctions. In a recent interview with news agency PTI, Karthik said that there is not a defined name in his mind about the team he wants to play for in IPL 2022.
"It's very hard for me to answer this question because it will be a very cliched answer. I'll try and do everything that I can, not only to do well for the franchisee I play for but for myself also," said Karthik when he was asked about the team he wants to play for.
However, the Tamil Nadu cricketer hinted that it will be great if he gets to play for his local franchise Chennai Super Kings. "Look, it's great if I can play for CSK. I'm from Chennai. But at the end of the day, what's important for me is whichever team that I get to play in, it will be an absolute honour because as I said, all this practice that I've been doing these days is to try and do well in a tournament like the IPL," added Karthik.
I want to play for 3-4 years more: Karthik
The 36-year-old further talked about his future plans. Dinesh Karthik revealed that he wants to play for the national side for 3-4 years more, especially in the shortest format. The Tamil Nadu cricketer also emphasized the fact that age is just a number and it rather helps at the biggest level.
"Age is definitely not the thing that a lot of normal people look at it (for India comeback). Shikhar Dhawan was the highest run-getter (in ODIs in South Africa) and we are the same age," said Karthik. "People tend to figure out, understand their body, the amount of cricket they can play and all of those reasons, like a big example, was the way you know Shoaib Malik and Hafeez were able to contribute to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup," he added.
