Preview

After winning some close games in the league stage and making it to the playoffs, it now rolls down to one win to progress ahead for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Having finished in the 3rd and 4th positions respectively, the two teams will now play the Eliminator for a place in Qualifier 2. It is going to be an exciting battle with both teams having some top-quality players.

Pitch Report

The Eden Garden pitch is generally two-paced. But since the pitch that will be used for the match between LSG and RCB will be a fresh one, the ball is expected to come onto the bat nicely. Quick bowlers will enjoy bowling here with pace and bounce on offer.

Team Analysis

Lucknow Super Giants

Playing in their first season, the KL Rahul-led team did remarkably well to make it to the playoffs. However, all the wins in the league stages will now be just numbers as one lapse here will knock LSG out of the tournament. Lucknow have a few worries to address ahead of the big game. Marcus Stoinis needs to come up in the batting order and the lower-middle order needs to take more responsibility. The bowlers, however, have been exceptional for LSG. Mohsin Khan, in particular, has impressed everyone with his ability to take wickets at will.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Reaching the playoffs for the third consecutive season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have a point to prove by winning the title. But that dream is still far away with a couple of obstacles in between. RCB might have relied on Mumbai for a place in the playoffs, but they did win against Gujarat to keep themselves afloat in the race. Now, they have a tough opponent in Lucknow.

Although Virat Kohli got some runs against Gujarat, RCB can’t rely on one player to get the job done. Faf du Plessis will have to put his hands up and play throughout. The bowlers also need to be careful with their lengths as LSG have two dashing openers in KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. Eyes will also be on Dinesh Karthik who would be eager to celebrate his India recall with another one of his masterfully crafted finishes. Wanindu Hasaranga has been their leading wicket-taker and he has the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj for company from the pace department.

Conclusion

Royal Challengers Bangalore have more experienced players to take them over the line and that makes them the favorites to win the Eliminator.
