While it isn't turning out to be quite the high-scoring thriller that fans usually take a liking to in the Indian Premier League (IPL), they still have found something to cheer about in the ongoing IPL 2022 opener between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. The ongoing match at the Wankhede Stadium is turning out to be quite a low-scoring one, in contrast to the expectation before the start of the game.

This is because CSK were asked to bat first and they never really settled in but in fact started to lose wickets from the first over. This meant less boundaries- something which fans applaud. However, the biggest cheer from the fans came in when MS Dhoni came in to bat. Dhoni's arrival at the centre happened late in the 11th over when Shivam Dube departed off the bowling of Andre Russell.

Dhoni also did not disappoint his fans and played a fine innings, completing a fine fifty off just 38 balls. However, his efforts went in vain as CSK lost the match by 6 wickets.

At the post-match presentation, the winning captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that they were tensed the way Dhoni was batting in the death overs.

"There's always tension when MS Dhoni is batting, especially in the last three overs when the dew is coming. The franchise has been supportive, right from the CEO and support staff. We just have to carry the momentum from here," Iyer told Harsha Bhogle.

"It was definitely spongier than we imagined. I've grown up playing here and I thought the wicket would be flat. Umesh has been working very hard at the nets and practise session. Chuffed to see him perform at his best today," he added.
