KKR won their 3rd game of the IPL 2022 season in style by defeating Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians. Kolkata winning the toss as expected opted to field first and started off pretty well as Umesh Yadav dismissed the Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma cheaply for just 3 runs and at one stage they were reeling at 55/3 after end of 11 overs. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav's 83-run partnership along with Pollard's strong finish helped them to get a decent total of 161/4 on board. Cummins despite conceding 23 runs off the final over, played a spectacular innings to sail KKR to a big victory by huge margin (in terms of NRR).

KKR in the chase didn't have a flying start as expected since they managed to score just 35 runs for loss of 2 wickets in the powerplay. In the middle overs KKR constantly kept losing wickets despite being on par with the required rate thus it looked like game will be in favour of Mumbai but unexpected knock from Pat Cummins totally changed the flavour of game towards Kolkata and sealed the game for them with 4 overs to be spared. Pat Cummins' fearless knock saw him smashing Daniel Sams for 35 runs in an over and he ended up scoring unbeaten 56 runs from just 15 balls at end.
