Date: April 17, 2022

Venue: DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai

The 28th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will bring Punjab Kings up against former champion Sunrisers Hyderabad at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Both the teams have won three out of five games and have lost two games. But due to the difference in net run rate, Punjab is placed in the third spot, while Hyderabad is in the eighth position in the points table. Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab is coming off a comprehensive win against Mumbai Indians; meanwhile, Hyderabad, too, has bounced back from early turmoils and has won three straight games.

Pitch Report:

The team batting first has won twice in the last two games at the venue, and hence, runs on board could also work out well if the side can execute the bowling plans well. However, the captain that wins the toss is likely to stick with bowling first, going by the trend in the tournament.

Punjab Kings:

The openers found form in the previous fixture, which will be a great boost, while they expect a lot more from Jonny Bairstow, who can be destructive once he settles in. Mayank Agarwal (52 off 32) and Shikhar Dhawan (70 off 50) built a solid partnership in their most recent match while Shahrukh Khan (15 off 6) and Jitesh Sharma (30 off 15) gave a blistering end to the side. However, Odean Smith stole the show with his four-wicket haul and ensured the win for Punjab. Kagiso Rabada and Vaibhav Arora picked two and one wickets in the game, respectively. The skipper will hope for some consistency from Liam Livingstone as he possesses great talent and potential to turn the game in their favour.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

The Kane Williamson-led side has been playing a phenomenal game after losing the first couple of matches. Umran Malik and T Natarajan are proving to be great death bowlers and posing a tough challenge to opponents. Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram played sizzling knocks in their last game and would look to repeat the same against Punjab Kings. Both the batters have performed incredibly well and have not let the absence of all-rounder Washington Sunder felt.

Although both the teams are coming off a comprehensive win, Sunrisers Hyderabad seems to be stronger and on a mission to outplay every opponent they face. SRH will win the game.
