Preview

It will be a clash between the two most successful teams of IPL, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Although the performance of both teams, especially MI, has been the complete opposite of their reputation and are officially out of the tournament with nine losses, CSK are hanging by a thread with eight points. Now, the MS Dhoni-led team will hope to boost their chances when they face MI on Thursday (12 May).

Pitch Report

The Wankhede Stadium Pitch has been on the slower side as compared to the other three venues in IPL 2022. Batters have had to work hard to score runs. For bowlers, especially pacers, there has been a little help. Thus, the same is expected in Match 59 between CSK and MI.

Team Analysis

Chennai Super Kings

The MS Dhoni-led side registered a thumping victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) by 91 runs to keep themselves in the hunt for the playoff. However, there are slim chances of happening so as CSK will have to rely on other match results. Nonetheless, as MS Dhoni said, it’s not the end of the road for CSK as they will look to enjoy the rest of the games.

Devon Conway’s and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s opening partnership is working wonders for CSK. The middle-order also did well to keep the momentum going. In the bowling department, Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh have started performing. Maheesh Theekshana has also been consistently chipping in. So, with Ravindra Jadeja’s fitness in doubt, CSK are not expected to make any changes.

SportsTiger Playing XI of CSK

Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Dwayne Bravo, Maheesh Theekshana, Simarjeet Singh, Mukesh Choudhary

Mumbai Indians

Nothing has gone well for the five-time champions in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Their last game was a summary of their journey so far. Despite being in control for half of the game, MI lost miserably to KKR. Also with MI eliminated, the Rohit Sharma-led side will look to get more game time for individuals and prepare a core for the next season.

Ishan Kishan has looked good in the last two games and the southpaw batter will look to keep the momentum going. With no Suryakumar Yadav, MI’s middle order needs someone solid. But they don’t have enough options. Dewald Brevis may get a chance in place of Kieron Pollard as the latter has looked completely out of touch. In bowling, Bumrah returning among wickets was the biggest positive for MI, and the management will want their spearhead to get a couple of more such performances.

Ishan Kishan (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Ramandeep Singh, Daniel Sams, Murugan Ashwin, Kumar Kartikeya, Jasprit Bumrah, Riley Meredith

Match Prediction

Conclusion

Chennai have the required momentum and they also have a settled team as compared to Mumbai. Thus, CSK remain the favorite to win Thursday’s match.
