Preview

KKR saved themselves from being knocked out of the tournament with a convincing win over five-time champions Mumbai Indians. They now have five wins from 12 games and still hold a chance to qualify for the playoffs. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, have put themselves in a tricky position with five losses on the trot. They too have five wins but have an extra game compared to KKR. So, SRH too have a chance to finish in the top four of the points table. This makes the game really interesting with the tournament still wide open.

Pitch Report

The MCA Stadium pitch has been a belter with plenty of runs on offer. However, with so many games played at the venue, the pitches have started to deteriorate a bit. Batting in the second innings is getting tougher. Nonetheless, batters will still enjoy the track while the bowlers will look to exploit its sluggishness.

Team Analysis

Kolkata Knight Riders:

After trying almost half-a-dozen opening pairs, KKR management went back to Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer and it did work for them. Iyer played a good comeback innings and provided his team the desired start. The middle-order also stepped up but then came the Bumrah storm which could not have been avoided. Nonetheless, Shreyas Iyer’s team still have a chance and they would like to make the most of it. With a thumping victory over MI, no changes to the playing eleven are expected.

Venkatesh Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (c), Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sheldon Jackson (wk), Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Tim Southee, Varun Chakravarthy

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

With five losses on the trot, SRH looks clueless. Their bowling unit, which was considered deadly in the first half of the tournament, suddenly lacks potency. Umran Malik’s form has become a worry for SRH. In batting, Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson are again failing to get starts. Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi, and Nicholas Pooran, however, have shown a fight but have failed to bring results. Now with only three games left for SRH, they need to make necessary amends. Washington Sundar may replace J Suchith if he is fit. T Natarajan may come in for Fazalhaq Farooqi and Glenn Phillips can replace Shashank Singh.
