BCCI official has confirmed that the Indian Premier League mega auction for 2022 season will take place on 12th and 13th February. However, an official announcement from the cricket board is to be expected soon. In another major development, it is to be noted that the IPL auction is set to clash with team India’s home season as well. West Indies will be touring India for six white ball games from 6th to 20th February.

Despite this clash, the BCCI is likely to go ahead with the mega auction and will keep everything as planned. Earlier, it was expected that the auction would take place in January 2022. But then it was extended after two new franchises- the Lucknow based franchise and Ahmedabad franchise joined the IPL teams. However, a further delay took place because the BCCI set up a three member panel to investigate links of CVC, the owner of Ahmedabad, with a betting company. The franchise got a green signal and were asked to go ahead with the franchise yesterday.

3rd ODI to be played on February 12 in Kolkata

The series between India and West Indies will commence with the ODI series on February 6 and will go on until February 20 when the T20Is will conclude. The third ODI of the series will be played on February 12 in Kolkata. The BCCI confirmed that the match in Kolkata will have no bearing on the auction, hence the clashing events will not be much of a problem. "It has been clarified to us that the match and auction are two different things and both will go ahead,” the official said.

Now the major concern for both these events will be the common broadcasters- Star. The BCCI has informed Star Sports about the events clash. However, the broadcast channel is yet to respond.

17th January is the set deadline by the cricket board for the international boards and state associations to send the names of the players enrolled for auction.
