Mumbai lost their fifth game of IPL 2022 to Punjab Kings despite coming up with new strategies at MCA Stadium in Pune. Punjab with the help of fifty-plus scores from their skipper Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan helped them to get a very good while Jitesh Sharma’s quickfire 30 powered them to put a strong total of 198/5 on board. For MI other than Bumrah no one looked impressive with ball as all others conceded too many runs, thus going with concept of 5 bowlers (instead of 1 all-rounder) also didn’t help their cause.
Mumbai in the chase initially were struggling to match the required run-rate but 9th over from Rahul Chahar to Dewald Brevis totally changed the complexion of game as he ended up conceding 29 runs off an over. Dewald Brevis quick-fire 49 from 25 balls made the equation look so simple for Mumbai Indians but two needless run-outs off Tilak Varma and Kieron Pollard totally crushed the hopes of MI as they lacked number 7 batsman to score some runs in a high scoring chase. Odean Smith picked 4 wickets in the game including the important wicket of Dewald Brevis while Rabada also picked key wickets of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
