The new year hasn't even begun in full swing but yet so much seems to have already happened in the world of sports. The cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) seems to be the highlight for all. Before the league begins in full swing, there is much hush-hush that keeps the fans, ex-cricketers, commentators and everyone involved surprised.
In what could be a huge update from the IPL circuit, it is being learnt that the talisman Chennai Super Kings leader Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to give up his captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja for the forthcoming season to allow for a smooth transition in the years to follow.
These are only reports doing the rounds, but it has caused havoc on social media with fans coming up with comments like "no chance" and comparing captaincy choices. Well, MS Dhoni is not someone who likes to stay much in the limelight and would rather enjoy making his cricket decisions away from the press. Hence, it will be interesting to see whether Dhoni remains captain, or will the Chennai Super Kings see a new leader, maybe a better one in a fellow teammate donning the yellow colour on the field.

Two new teams have joined the league for the upcoming season, which means fresh talent, a place for new faces and a power-packed season await the cricketing world. Hence, netizens also feel it could be a slightly better approach to hand over the captaincy to a young, experienced, and talented Ruturaj Gaikwad who stole the show for the Chennai Super Kings in 2021 season.
Owing to the pandemic still sticking around, the BCCI is still in the planning stage of this cash-rich tournament. Many changes, many decisions, lots of planning and many backup options are still being pondered over to ensure the smooth functioning of the tournament. Therefore, the management involved with the Chennai Super Kings would still have enough time to actually ponder over an eligible leader for the squad. What will be interesting to see is if Dhoni continues to be part of the CSK franchise as a player and how everything pans out for the squad this season if Ravindra Jadeja is appointed the captain.
One thing is certain though that if and when a successor of Dhoni is appointed, he will have big shoes to fill of replacing a legendary skipper who has already helped the Men in Yellow lift the IPL title as many as four times.
