After a thrilling league stage, the IPL 2022 caravan moves to the knockouts stage. The first game of the playoffs, Qualifier 1 will take place on May 24 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals will battle it out for a place in the final. It is going to be an interesting battle with a big place in the summit clash at stake. Now, coming to the form of both teams, while Rajasthan are coming on the back of a convincing win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans were defeated in their last game by RCB.
The Eden Gardens pitch will be totally fresh for the first encounter. In the last few years, the pitch has become more favorable for batters with shorter boundaries and a quick outfield. However, pace bowlers enjoy some leverage with pace and bounce on offer. And with both teams having a great bowling lineup, Qualifier 1 is expected to be a thrilling one.
The new entrants in IPL 2022 have played with zero pressure and thus finished the league stage by sitting at the top of the table. With ten wins in fourteen games, the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat are brimming with confidence. However, there are a few worries for them as well. Wriddhiman Saha, who has handled the first six overs to perfection, did not take the field in GT’s last game against RCB. If he fails to make it to the eleven, GT management will have to bring in a new opener. Also, Rashid Khan has had a mixed season so far with the ball. Although he has been economical, he has not taken as many wickets as GT would have wanted. And if Gujarat want to win the title, they need Rashid to step up like Yuzvendra Chahal.

Rajasthan have also played a good brand of cricket throughout this season. Their bowlers, in particular, have been bold enough with their lengths. In batting, Jos Buttler was doing the job in the first half but he has failed to get a big score in the last few games. The void has been, however, filled nicely by Yashasvi Jaiswal. R Ashwin has been another standout performer for RR this season with his two-dimensional skills. But, the pressure of knockout games plays a bit differently, and it will be there to see if RR cope with that pressure. Also, Buttler needs to fire if RR are to win the title.

Yashaswi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, R Ashwin, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Obed McCoy, Yuzvendra Chahal
Although GT have been exceptional so far in IPL 2022, RR possess the potential to beat any team on a given day. Thus, they remain the favorite to win Tuesday’s match.
