The IPL 2022 mega auction is just a few days away and all the franchises are leaving no stone unturned in preparing for the same. It has been stated that this could be the last-ever mega auction in IPL for some time, which makes it an absolutely crucial one for all the teams.

Notably, the plans of Royal Challengers Bangalore, one of the most famous franchises in the league, have reportedly been revealed recently. The side, who have retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj, have identified an all-rounder who is set to be one of their main targets during the bidding process.

The experienced 30-year-old player, who has played for Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in past, has been recognized as the solution to problems of RCB. The franchise have had the issue in death overs, with both bat and ball, in last few seasons and this major area of concern is being taken into consideration by franchise ahead of IPL 2022.

“Ben Stokes isn’t available, Hardik Pandya and Marcus Stoinis are taken. Mitchell Marsh, you never know whether he can survive a full IPL with his injury-prone career, [Jason] Holder has been phenomenal if one looks at his record. RCB will like to go the distance as some others will also pitch in," a source close to franchise told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Jason Holder has been quite impressive in his limited appearances in IPL so far. In 26 matches, the West Indies all-rounder has taken 35 wickets, in addition to scoring 189 runs as well. The 30-year-old could indeed be a great pick for the franchise as the experienced campaigner could be the multi-utility player that the franchise needs to win their maiden title.

“For Holder, they have reserved Rs 12 crore and another Rs 8 crore for [Ambati] Rayudu and Rs 7 crore for [Riyan] Parag. If they spend Rs 27 crore approximately on these players, they would have another Rs 28 crore left. The core with Kohli, Maxwell, Siraj, Holder, Rayudu, and Parag will be set. Let’s hope they can get two out of the preferred three," the source added.

If RCB succeeds in their plan of signing the trio, it could indeed form a great core for them in IPL 2022. However, it is not going to be easy for them as many teams are likely to bid for these players during the mega auction.
