The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded on 29 May with Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) lifting the coveted title. Gujarat beat Rajasthan by seven wickets in the final to emerge as the champions in their debut season itself. Captain Hardik Pandya stole the show with his all-round performance. Meanwhile, RR’s Jos Buttler swept many awards at the presentation ceremony for his prolific run this season.

The RR opener scored a massive 863 runs in 17 matches in IPL 2022. He also scored the most number of 4s (83) and 6s (45). While Buttler completely dominated the run charts, it was his teammate Yuzvendra Chahal who won the Purple Cap with the most wickets this season (27).

This 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was filled with some breathtaking cricketing action. There were some outrageous shots played, some mind-bobbling catches taken, and some dominating innings played. But there were also some disappointing performances from a few big names. So, here we look at eleven such players who failed to make a mark this season and form a Flop XI.

1. Rohit Sharma

Captaining the Mumbai Indians' side, Rohit Sharma failed to impress in both departments, captaincy and batting. While his team finished at the bottom of the points table with ten losses in fourteen league games, Sharma himself averaged under 20. The Indian skipper could not capitalize on the starts he got and could aggregate only 268 runs in 14 matches. Rohit could also not score a half-century in IPL 2022.

2. Ishan Kishan

Bought for a whopping 15.25 Crores, Ishan Kishan was expected to win games for Mumbai in IPL 2022. But a complete opposite performance came out from Kishan this season. Known for his big hits and aggressive batting style, Kishan played with a considerably low strike rate. Although he scored over 400 runs (418) and average over 30 (32.15), his strike rate was 120.11 in IPL 2022.

3. Virat Kohli

Being called the Run Machine, Virat Kohli was expected to take IPL 2022 by storm having relieved himself from captaincy duties. But not a single performance came as per Kohli’s standards this season. The RCB batter scored 341 runs in 16 matches at an average of 22.73 and strike rate of 115.98 with two fifties. He also registered three golden ducks in IPL 2022.

4. Kane Williamson

Being named as David Warner’s successor at Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kane Williamson could not even score 1/4th of the runs Warner scored for SRH in one season (848 in 2016). The Kiwi batter scored 2016 runs in 13 games at an average of 19.64 and a strike rate of 93.51. Coming to bat at the top of the order, Williamson could not get going. He also tried batting in the middle order but that too did not work.

5. Kieron Pollard

Once a match-winner for Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard struggled big time in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It felt like Pollard had his mind cluttered throughout the season. The West Indies all-rounder scored 144 runs in 11 matches at an average of 14.40 and a strike rate of 107.46. He also could not do much with the ball as he bagged only 4 wickets in 14 overs bowled.

6. Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan came in IPL 2022 with a really good domestic season behind him. He also got rewarded with a 9-Crore contract with Punjab Kings. However, the performances in IPL 2022 were not even closer to Khan’s reputation. The Punjab batter scored 117 runs in 8 matches at an average of 16.71 and a strike rate of 108.33.

7. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja had a dreadful IPL 2022. The India all-rounder would just want to forget this season. Being named as the new captain of CSK, Jadeja felt the pressure till he was at the helm. He got his rhythm back a bit after he relieved himself from leadership duties. But the initial struggles did not work in his favour. Jadeja scored 116 runs in 10 matches (Avg 19.33) and took only five wickets (Avg 49.60).

8. Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakravarthy was retained by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping 8 Crores. But the ‘mystery-spinner’ failed to deliver to people’s expectations. Chakravarthy took only 6 wickets in 11 matches he played for KKR in IPL 2022. He also conceded runs at 8.51 rpo.

9. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj had a prolific run in IPL 2021 and hence was retained by RCB. But the decision did not turn out how the franchise would have expected. The right-arm pacer lacked potency and was taken to the cleaners. Siraj took only 9 wickets in 15 matches he played and conceded runs at 10.08 rpo in IPL 2022.

10. Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for 3.60 Crores to play the role of death overs specialist. But Jordan failed miserably and hence also lost his palace in the eleven. His over against Rashid Khan during CSK vs GT in the league stage changed the course of the game. Jordan took only two wickets in the four matches he played and conceded runs at almost 11 rpo (10.52).

11. Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje was one of four retentions of Delhi Capitals for IPL 2022. But it turned out to be a woeful season for Nortje. He first missed a few games with injury. He then featured in only six games for DC in IPL 2022. The South African pacer took nine wickets in the 6 matches and conceded runs at 9.52 rpo.
