Ever since the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions were done and dusted, IPL 2022 schedule is what is awaited eagerly by cricket fans. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is taking ample time to release the full-fledged schedule. The reason for the delay in the schedule announcement is due to a small conflict between the board and the broadcasters.

While it was reported earlier that the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League can begin from 27 March, it is now being reported that the start can be preponed on the demand of the broadcasters. A Cricbuzz report has claimed that Disney plus Hotstar and BCCI are still discussing the start date with the latter insisting on March 26 as the date. The broadcasters want the momentum going right from the start with a doubleheader on Sunday i.e. March 27.

"We understand that a Saturday start helps the broadcaster to kick-start the league with a bang with three matches in the first weekend. A Sunday inauguration would not permit that. The BCCI and the broadcasters were in discussion over this and eventually it could be on March 26," a franchise official, in the know of the negotiations, was quoted saying.

However, there has been no comments made either from the BCCI or the broadcasters.

Schedule announcement delayed

The BCCI has earlier promised to franchises to come up with a schedule and venues for the 15th edition of the IPL by 20 February. But with the conflict still on, the announcement has been delayed. However, the Cricbuzz report has further claimed that the broadcasters have asked commentators to be ready from March 19 to June 7.

"At the onset, wanted to check with you on your availability for IPL 2022 on the world feed broadcast. So request you to please provide your availability not only for the tournament but probably say minus 8-10 days from the start date and plus five days from the end date to be safe, so effectively from 19th March 2022 to say June 7, 2022 (sic)," the mail to commentators says.
