As the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League is just days away, the teams have started setting up their camps as players from all over the world come to India. Like every other season, IPL promises the audience high-scoring games, nail-biting finishes and out of the world catches. But despite all the other frills of the sport, batting is its main attraction. Throughout IPL history, we have seen incredible batters, who consistently performed for an entire season, to win the Orange Cap. This special honour has been embraced by legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Chris Gayle and current superstars like Virat Kohli, David Warner etc.

So let us look at this list of five batters who could hold the Orange Cap by the end of the 2022 season.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer

The newest captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer, is one of the favourites to win this year’s Orange Cap. He is entering this IPL with a player of series performance against Sri Lanka, where he scored 204 runs in three games at a strike rate of 174.35 and would be hopeful of continuing that form throughout the upcoming IPL 2022.

Virat Kohli

Modern India’s best batter, Virat Kohli, has been struggling in the recent past as he has failed to score a century in international cricket since December 2019. But in a revamped RCB squad with Faf du Plessis as the captain, Kohli has free reign to express himself and show his ‘Virat’ form once again.

Suryakumar Yadav

Indian cricket’s newest sensation, Suryakumar Yadav, could take the league by storm. He will be Mumbai Indians’ main batter with Rohit Sharma’s continued struggles in recent games. Yadav could finally take the leap and solidify as a bonafide run-scorer before the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.

David Warner

The Australian opening batter, David Warner, has been one of the most consistent batters in IPL history. This season, he returns to his first IPL team, the Delhi Capitals, hoping to win their first IPL title in history. With Ricky Ponting as their coach, Warner could maximise his talent and win his fourth Orange Cap.

KL Rahul

After moving to the Gujarat Titans, KL Rahul will have a lot to prove as he wasn’t retained by the Punjab Kings for the 2022 season. The Karnataka batter has been the best Indian batter in IPL for the last few seasons and he also won the Orange Cap in the 2020 season. With a strong batting order surrounding him, KL Rahul could play the anchor role for his team and win the second Orange Cap of his career.
